My Grandmother: Who Fought for Her Life

My Grandmother: Who Fought for Her Life Not a day goes by where I don’t think about my grandmother, Gloria. Part of everything I do is to make her proud. She was a Holocaust survivor who told my aunt that the reason she went through all of that was to eventually have me like fate. Everything happens for a reason is what she firmly believed toward the later years of her life. Although, it’s weird to think that without the Holocaust I wouldn’t have been alive because my grandmother would have never have come to American to escape oppression. But it shows me how great and open America for taking in my grandmother and eventually she was to live the American dream. She didn’t make millions like Siggi but it was also a rags to riches story. She started a hardware business from scratch coming to America having lost everything and starting over.  My grandmother’s family was rich in Poland before the Holocaust. She lost seven of her siblings and her parents in the concentration camps. S...

Peter Guimaraes - Putting the Love Back in I Love New York and the Fun Back in Fine Dining  Peter Guimaraes, a restaurant owner and someone who ran for NYC mayor, puts fun events into his atmosphere which makes his restaurants lively and exciting. There is never a dull moment when it come to Peter’s restaurant, Bice. Sometimes he has live music or a DJ. It’s usually on the weekends. He also hosted a night where everyone wore white. A “white party” is what it was called. Everyone looked super classy. Bice also hosted an after party for fashion week which proves Bice is nothing short of glamor.  There is a Bice that opened up in Soho shortly after July 4th so semi recently. The environment and atmosphere is outstanding with beautiful fake trees inside the restaurant.  Not only is Peter Guimaraes hospitable with his plans and restaurant events, but he cares about New York City an helped bring the fun back after Covid. This is shown in his restaurants and his ...

Sir Ivan Proves Heroism Runs in his Genetics

Image
If you never read the book ‘Unstoppable’, you should now. ‘Unstoppable’ is a biography of Siggi Wilzig, Sir Ivan’s father, and talks about his journey from being a Holocaust survivor to a man making millions on Wall Street. Who is Sir Ivan? Well for one thing, he created his name for writing his music but it also makes sense he’s a Sir because he lives in a castle in the Hamptons. What he is really known for is his hospitality to his friends and for recreating John Legend’s song, ‘Imagine’ to honor his father Siggi and what his father went through in the Holocaust. He also has spoken at at least one synagogue to speak about his father, his legacy and the Holocaust.  When I told Sir Ivan that I am also a descendant of a Holocaust survivor, he responded that “We are family”. We are family after all and not by blood but by a bond of similar upbringings, lessons and understandings. When he said that, I instantly felt welcomed and it warmed my heart.  My dad, who just like...

GMO’S (Genetically Modified Organisms) A Health Epidemic

GMO’S: A Health Epidemic I try to get products or food that have the ‘no GMO’ label. I also try to buy organic fruits and vegetables and wash them off. I get all my variety of fruits and vegetables from a subscription to ‘Farm Direct”. They have everything imaginable and I can even make a salad. But the important thing is that they are organic and don’t have GMOS, or genetically modified organisms. Otherwise, I’d just wash my fruit and get paranoid it is not enough or that I’m missing a spot that has GMO’s. Whole Foods is a place I do trust for organic food but it isn’t always 100 percent organic.  But should we be concerned that GMO’s cause cancer? That has yet to be discovered. But eating meat and regular milk could have carcinogens that cause cancer and has hormones.  It makes me not trust that food either. So, where do we go from here?

DAPL (Dakota Access Pipeline): A Wakeup Call for. America and a Time for Serious Reflection

Image
DAPL (Dakota Access Pipeline): A Wakeup Call for America and a Time for Serious Reflection   The Dakota Access Pipeline was a pipeline designed to run through North Dakota. According to the Native Americans, it was going to go through sacred tribal land. The protests were really intense. Nobody was anything like it. I think it exploded all this cramped up emotion of repressed Native Americans for hundreds of years when we took their land but even before that. There was a Native American genocide hundreds of years ago. Since then they have been displaced and treated poorly. They have been pushed to the side and kept in reservations. But that also might be where they feel most comfortable and sacred at this point. So when their land was being threatened, it hurt them a lot because they are given so little and asked for nothing.  The protests were publicized globally. There were famous people protesting such as Bernie Sanders. Shailene Woodly, actress from ‘the Fault of our...

Jane Ponterelli: An Icon

Image
Jane Ponterelli: An Icon Some may know her because she was a playboy bunny at the club back in the day. But since then, she’s been a successful real estate agent, a popular socialite, and a political leader. She’s out every night inspiring people to the same and be more social at time where we lost social time.  She’s also a charming beauty inside and out. She’s known for her bright pink hair that only she can pull off, has a personality to match since it’s just as colorful, and a beautiful face.  Most people who go to parties have encountered Jane and remember her for her bubbly fun and free-spirited personality. Her birthday is the same as mine which is January 20 which could explain why Jane and I are very into politics! Despite looking intimidatingly snobby, Jane is lovely, sweet and authentic. There is not one person who doesn’t like Jane even with the fact that she is a proud and brave Republican. She is friendly with the Trumps and doesn’t hold her opinions b...
